A new project of the Business & Professional Women of Nevada County , chaired by Robin Mallery, founder of Heart Matters began last week. The Community Garden Project is held at the home of Freddy Zylstra, president of BPW-NC and owner of Abundant Earth Design and Spring Valley Construction. Freddy and her husband have an organic garden, orchard and ample supply of horse manure from their horses. This month the members learned about the richness of the manure and how it adds to the organic growing process. We harvested of tomatoes, cucumbers, basil, summer squash and bell peppers from the garden. The plums and apples were ready to pick from the orchard as well. Our work party will meet each month to help with pruning, mulching, soil prep and planting depending on what month it is and what needs to be done. The goal is not only to share in the work and the harvest but also to make sure the excess food is donated to the local food bank.
The energy and the mission of this project is to support health and well-being of women.
Here are some photos of the last meeting from the garden to the kitchen.
In the kitchen to sample the harvest.

Wonderful summary of our day Phyllis. Thank you.
You are welcome. I sure appreciate the energy that you have put into this project.
And Freddy’s generosity of her space. It is wonderful.
